It's the middle of August and some athletes are wrapping up triathlon for the season while others are still training for late season races. Either way, I saw this quote and I just wanted to share it with you all. I think it can be relevant to any work out you might see come up in your training plan. Each of your training plans is unique to you and your training zones! Sometimes, it can be tempting to go harder on a zone 2-3 workout and “test” the fitness. But by doing this, you aren’t doing the designed work out and are creating more fatigue that results in more recovery time! Anyways, here is the quote.
“Many Athletes want to test their fitness in training during peak season. We, however, have a different approach; we think of training as if we are farmers and we are harvesting carrots.
Many athletes want to pull the carrot from the ground early to see what they have made, but in reality, once you test it, you can never put it back in. We won’t pull the carrot out of the ground until it’s race day, but trust that our preparation and experience will give us the best of odds of success.”
- Jakob Ingebrigtsen
I thought this was such a great analogy and something for you all to keep in the back of your head as you go about your training sessions.
Happy training!
